Presenta María Laura Alzúa (Centro de Estudios Distributivos, Laborales y Sociales-CEDLAS- Universidad Nacional de La Plata)

"Access to childcare is believed to have positive effects on female labor supply. Moreover, high quality childcare is sought to positively affect children development outcomes. We make use of a lottery to assign children to public childcare centers In Mongolia to measure Its Impacts on labor market outcomes, child health and child development. We show that offering of free public childcare has positive impacts on parents’ labor market outcome. It increases mothers’ current employment by 4.5 percentage points and hourly wages by 6.3% one year after enrollment started. However, the treatment has negative impacts on children’s health outcomes in the first year of enrollment. Exposure to infectious diseases increase. We do not find any statistically significant effect on child cognitive development".
