The Instituto de Economía is part of the Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y de Administración. Its primary task is to create knowledge based around three axes: high quality research based on diverse perspectives in economic thought, the active encouragement of the permanent education of students and researchers, and relations with the society.
The management of the Institute is the responsibility of the director and a co-governed council (CONDIR). The research program is organized around ten groups: “Macroeconomic Analysis”; “Structural Change and Productive Specialization”; “Local and Regional Development”; “Institutions and Development”; “Inequality and Poverty”; “Labor Economics”; “Ethics, Justice and Economics”; “Economic History of Uruguay”; “Economic History, Political Economy and Fiscal Policy”; and “Institutions, Organizations and Participation”. The group coordinators assist the Director in making everyday decisions. |
